If you judge people, you have no time to love them. How true is that? Walking on a campus that holds thousands of people I see plenty of people that I would love to judge, but instead I smile and continue on may way. Too many people today judge people without getting to know them. Take the time to get to know the person before making assumptions about them. Now the reason for my writing this blog stems from music, like always. It has come to my attention that my two favorite artists, Taylor Swift and John Mayer, have been in the headlines lately. Not together or anything, but moreover with a song titled, "Dear John", that is soon to be released with Taylor's new album.
Many people are making the judgement that this song is about John Mayer and that Taylor is writing about how John took advantage of her way back when. This taking advantage taking place somewhere along the lines of them recording the song, "Half of My Heart" on John's recently released album "Who Says". Now I know that Taylor is known for writing songs about boys, especially previous experiences and feelings towards boys. For example, it has been inferred that there have been songs written about Joe Jonas and on the new album Taylor Lautner. Taylor has openly admitted that her songs are truly about real people and real experiences, but I find it a little ridiculous that people read so much into WHO the song is about. Not to mention that DEAR JOHN is also known as a break up letter that girls write to break things off with their boyfriend...so again...who is to say that Dear John, is about JOHN MAYER. It could be about John Doe, or John O'Callahan, or John from the movie Dear John.... Shoot I dunno.
Why do we have to judge who the song is about? Can we not just listen to the song and appreciate the message that it holds? Sure Taylor may have made mistakes or her relationships haven't always gone for the best, but do we really need to bash on the boys that the song is about? No, I certainly do not think so. I think that what should be judged here is how well Taylor's song/message is heard by her listeners. I think that who the song about is completely irrelevant. Isn't that getting into people's personal business? Yes yes this is music and people are going to wonder and be curious who the song is about, but common people lets leave the curiosity aside.
Both John Mayer and Taylor Swift are amazing artists. I am well aware of how wacked out John's reputation has been. I have respect for both artists and I love their music. I have not judged them for who they are or what they have done in the past, therefore I have had the ability to love their songs and love them as recording artists.
Maybe I am a little off base here, or maybe it is because this judgement is between 2 of my favorite artists, but I just don't get people some days.
I totally agree about the judging. That is one thing I love about my college, we are very tolerant. If everyone would stop judging life would simply be better.
